Weekly Observations

  • Mixed wind resource data last week. Throughout the East coast / Midwest, wind speeds were very good, driving almost 50% increases in generation in the region. However, west of the Mississippi much slower, with generational falling across the board
  • For the quarter, wind speeds are tracking inline with year ago levels, performing much better than Q3 output
  • Biggest areas of strength has been in the Northwest, where wind speeds and generation are both tracking ahead of year ago. Avangrid (AGR), after poor Q3 performance, is best leveraged to the wind resource in this region

About Lium's Windometer

This exercise synthesizes data from a wide range of sources in the U.S. wind power market to reveal trends in generation, utilization, and the strength of the wind resource itself. The weekly snapshot also provides historical context for this week’s wind market in the U.S. relative to prior periods.
