Weekly Observations

  • This Week. Permit issuances were up +8% W/W across the U.S. The best performing regions were California (+16% W/W), East (+16% W/W), and the Southwest (+21% W/W).
  • Southwest. Permit activity in the region was particularly strong this week (+21% W/W), thanks in part to big weeks from some of the region’s larger cities Albuquerque (+22% W/W) and Phoenix (+44% W/W).
  • Texas. Had its third straight week of decreased permit activity (-10% W/W), despite three straight weeks of increased permit activity from the region’s biggest solar city, El Paso (+26% W/W).
  • California. Had a strong W/W performance (+16%), as Los Angeles pulled its weight (+15% W/W), and Fremont (+33% W/W) and Fresno (+89% W/W) each had their biggest weeks of 2021.
