Weekly Observations

  • This Week. After a slow start to the year, permit activity improved sharply this week, up 20% compared to the prior week. This weeks boost was driven by the central region in cities like Chicago and Indianapolis as well as the Southeast (New Orleans).  All other regions increased as well.
  • Jan / Feb. For January, permits ended up roughly 10% compared to a year ago (down ~20% versus the Q4 average – January is typically the lowest month of the year). At this weeks permit level, February activity would be up 15% compared to the prior year.
  • Market Share. We are still compiling January market share data, but early indications suggest improvements from RUN and TSLA while SPWR flat to lower.
