SOLARSAT™: Launch: Leading Indicator for U.S. Utility Scale Solar Activity

As an alternative to anecdotes, imperfect surveys, and guesswork, we have created a tool called Lium solarSAT™ to better inform the market with real-time solar satellite monitoring. With this product, investors and corporate management can monitor the status of all U.S. large scale solar projects, including the day each project broke ground (firstDIRT™), timing of panel deliveries, and final completions.
IRA Solar Boom (2023E up >50%); Projects under construction hit 19 GW in July; need 8 GW ‘waiting on panels’ to get cleared

In this note, we are updating our LS-1 Utility Solar Model to account for more activity driven by the potential Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the bulging backlog of projects waiting for panels.
BESS deployments hit record in Q2 (1.6 GW); Standalone doesn’t get enough credit; FLNC market share

While costs, solar panel constraints, and stalled policy has been a headwind, deployments of battery storage facilities (BESS) have been surprisingly strong. In fact, a record 1.6 GW of BESS has been connected to the grid in just the last 3-months. This is contrary to the…
Takeaways From Reuters Renewable Finance Dallas Conference

Following two days of immersive discussion at Reuters Renewables Finance & Investment conference in Dallas (where Lium Research was invited to emcee the event and 450 market participants were present), several key themes surfaced and are summarized below.
Takeaways From Large Scale Solar USA Austin Conference

This week we attended and presented at the Large Scale Solar USA conference in Austin. Key takeaways for us included
Increasing 2022E projections after Biden tariff action

In this note, we are updating our utility solar model (here) following the news that the Biden Administration will allow panels imported from Southeast Asia to be free of tariff risk for next 24-months. With this action, we now think the U.S will install..
May power data huge for solar; Elec prices surging; Offshore wind pipeline up +33%; Panel import data out next week

BESS Delay Risk, CleanPower Conf Takeaways, Satellite Intel, New Battery Model Download, & more… [storage hits]

EXCERPT: At the CleanPower conference in San Antonio this week, a key theme was: delays, delays, delays. Unsurprisingly, this was a common refrain among integrators, developers, EPC and assemblers at the conference. Although we did hear a couple anecdotes of easing port congestion, diesel shortages and pricing has become more acute…
AD/CVD Survey (125 projects / 35 delayed / 57 unchanged)

Over the past two weeks, we surveyed the status of ~125 U.S. utility solar projects that had an original 2022 completion prior to the Department of Commerce AD / CVD announcement in late March. The status of the individual project was assessed based on 1) confirmation with the developer that the project is on track despite the AD/CVD petition 2) identification of the project as not sourcing panels from the four targeted Southeast Asia countries or 3) verification that the project is in final stages of installation or commissioning (satellite imagery, visual inspection etc). Key takeaways from this survey include:……
San Antonio Conference Takeaways (utility scale getting hammered by AD/CV petition)

This week, we attended the RE+ solar conference in San Antonio, where the bulk of conversations were focused on…
